LINCOLN CATHEDRAL HERITAGE SKILLS FESTIVAL
29.6.17 Commercial, Residential
Taylor Lindsey proudly sponsored the Heritage Skills Festival at Lincoln Cathedral on the 23rd and 24th June 2017, hosted in conjunction with the City of London Livery Companies. The event is the first of its kind outside of London and displayed a wide range of historic crafts still used at the Cathedral today.
Taylor Lindsey sponsored the Worshipful Company of Tylers and Bricklayers, in a marquee situated on the East Green. The Tylers and Bricklayers encourage excellence in the tiling and bricklaying industries and received its first Royal Charter in 1568.
The Cathedral leadwork team repair and restore all the lead on the Cathedral roof which in total weighs 500 tonnes and would cover a vast area, equivalent to four football pitches. They ensure the Cathedral is kept watertight and weatherproof. One inch of rain on the roof weighs 385 tonnes and on an average day of rain the Cathedral roof copes with 9 hours of rain, equating to 848 tonnes of water.
The weekend was a unique chance to learn more about the work done on the city’s most famous landmark and to see these ancient skills in practise.
